Herbs & Hooves
April 23-27, 2008
This is an educational seminar focused on bridging the gap between equestrian activities and environmental awareness.
Horse people are very passionate in their love of the outdoors and riding as are the folks who seek to protect our natural world. Our idea is to bring the two together for a fun weekend of discovery and learning that will benefit both groups and raise the awareness that we are all in this life together. This interrelatedness is a key to understanding the path to preservation for all the future generations.
The seminar offers lots of riding opportunities as well as presentations by herbalist and native plants specialist, LC Moon. She will be conducting an herb ride with us to identify, gather and then use some of our amazing native herbs in a variety of ways from simple medicinal uses to soothing fragrant oils and potpourri.
Our area of Lookout Mountain is rich in wildflowers and foliage. Areas beside rivers and streams offer banks of rhododendrons and mountain laurel. Wild dogwoods scatter naturally through the forests. Countless species of ferns and wildflowers surround our trails. The clean air is often scented with the blossoming plants at this time of year.
You will be amazed as you ride our trails to see how your view of the natural world is changed through this very different approach to trail riding.
Accommodations will be in a rustic lodge by the Little River adjacent to DeSoto Falls Park. It is an easy walk to view the Falls. Each room has a separate bath and the lodge has a wonderful lobby with stone fireplace for gathering in the evening. There is a comfortable dining room where most meals will be served. A saddlebag lunch will accompany you when riding during lunchtime. Several different trail heads are a short drive away.
The 5 day/4 night seminar is limited to 12 participants; however, non-riding companions are welcome.
Cost: $1150 ($1350) double occupancy (single) includes: seminar, instructors, trail guides, housing, all meals, horses, tack, and tax.
