Day Trail Rides
Enjoy the tranquility of nature on guided trail rides. National Park Service lands and private woodlands in and around Mentone, AL provide a great place to view the beauty of our area from the back of a horse. Our horses are seasoned trail mounts with many miles of experience.
Riding locations:
Private lands around Mentone, AL—Shady trails through mature forests crossed by streams allow you to enjoy nature without competition for riding space. In the Spring, you can breath the fragrance of dogwood, azaleas, mountain laurel and rhododendron which scent the fresh mountain air. Fall brings spectacular color to the oaks and maples abundant in these woods.
Little River Canyon National Preserve atop Lookout Mountain near Ft. Payne, AL—The Backcountry area of Little River Canyon National Preserve encompasses around 8000 acres with 23 miles of multi-use trails. These wide trails afford a shady path for your Quarter Horse and Quarter cross mounts. Level trails alternate with hilly terrain and river crossings insuring a delightful and interesting ride. The Preserve is home to wild game, abundant wildflowers and some endangered species.
Pigeon Mountain Wildlife Management Area near Cloudland, GA—There are about 100 miles of closed roads and trails. Some parts are steep and reach from the low level of 920 feet to “High Point” at 2330 feet. There is a waterfall along with wild flowers, wildlife, a wide range of geological formations, and an excellent birding area with great scenery. White Blaze trail is the longest in the area, with over 11 miles of mostly flat wooded areas. It also has geological formations and reaches "High Point."
Trail availability may be limited due to inclement weather or during hunting seasons.
Rates and Reservations:
Half day and full day rides are available by appointment. 24 hours advance booking required with a deposit of half the total amount.
Half day $75.00 per person.
Full day $150.00 per person includes saddlebag lunch.
Cost includes horse, tack, guide, taxes and (full day) lunch. Gratuities not included. Minimum riding time: Half day--3 hours, full day--5 hours.
Visa/Mastercard and cash are accepted. Rider must present card used for charge at time of ride.
Our rides are designed for Novice to Intermediate riders. (Please see General Information for descriptions of riding levels.) We are happy to refer riders with less experience to an appropriate vendor in our area. Riders must demonstrate their ability to control their horse at a walk, trot and short canters and sign the liability waiver.
Long pants and shoes or boots with heels are required.
Helmets are available and required for riders under 18 years old.
Minimum 4 riders, maximum 12. All rides are guided. English and Western tack available. Maximum weight of rider allowed is 240 lbs.
